8.1.1 System Grounding and Potential Equalization of Avance Systems
In order to ensure a safe handling of the spectrometer under any condition, AVANCE sys-
tems must be part of the general potential equalization at the user's site.
To establish a complete potential equalization of the whole system, each system is delivered
with grounding cables that have to be attached to the console, the HPPR and the magnet as
follows:
• A cable must be connected from the central grounding point located on the lower back-
side of the cabinet, to the grounding of the building.
• When an external preamplifier (HPPR/2) is used, a cable has to be connected from the
central grounding point of the spectrometer to the grounding point of the external pream-
plifier base plate (second figure below).
• A cable must be connected from the magnet grounding point to the grounding point of the
spectrometer (first figure below), or if an external preamplifier is used, to the grounding
point of the external preamplifier (second figure below).
Please note that the grounding cables must be in place and tightly connected to the respec-
tive grounding points before the AVANCE system is energized or connected to the mains
connector. Disconnecting one of the cables is only allowed after the whole system has been
switched off.
The customer must be advised by the service engineer to take note of the safety information
in this manual. A confirmation that they have been instructed to do so is part of the Accep-
tance Protocol.
