Airplane Records and Certificates
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires that certain data,
certificates, and licenses be displayed or carried aboard the airplane
at all times. Additionally, other documents must be made available
upon request. The mnemonic acronym “ARROW” is often used to help
remember the required documents.

Owners of aircraft not registered in the United States should
check with the registering authority for additional
requirements.
Required Documents Note
A Airworthiness Certificate
FAA Form 8100-2
Must be displayed at all times.
R Registration Certificate
FAA Form 8050-3
Must be in the aircraft for all operations.
R Radio Station License
FCC Form 556
Required only for flight operations outside the
United States.
O Operating Instructions FAA Approved Flight Manual and Pilot’s Oper-
ating Handbook fulfills this requirement.
W Weight & Balance Data Included in FAA Approved Airplane Flight
Manual and Pilot’s Operating Handbook. Data
must include current empty weight, CG, and
equipment list.
Other Documents Note
Airplane Logbook Must be made available upon request.
Engine Logbook Must be made available upon request.
Pilot’s Checklist Available in cockpit at all times.
