RJ-45toDB-9 Serial Port Adapter Pinout
The console port on a vEdge 1000 router is an RS-232 serial interface that uses an RJ-45 connector to connect
to a management device such as a PC or a laptop. If your laptop or PC does not have a DB-9 male connector
pin and you want to connect your laptop or PC to a vEdge 1000 router, use a combination of the RJ-45–to–DB-9
female adapter along with a USB–to–DB-9 male adapter as shown in Figure 4. Note that the vEdge router
does not ship with an RJ-45–to–DB-9 serial port adapter cable.

Table 7 provides the wiring and pinout information for the RJ-45–to–DB-9 serial port adapter cable.

You can also connect the vEdge 1000 router to a management device such as a PC or a laptop using an
RJ-45–to–RJ45 cable as shown in Figure 5. Note that the vEdge router does not ship with an RJ-45–to–RJ-45
cable.
