Power Supply Outputs
The +5 V and +12 V external supplies provide auxiliary power for low-power circuits such as
encoders, potentiometers, RTDs, and similar devices. e I/O Ground (at pin 8) is the return line
for these low power devices. Both power supply outputs are protected against shorts to B+ or B−. e
default state is O. ey are individually enabled (turned On) using either their enable parameter
or VCL.
e +5 V supply is typically used for encoder feedback devices (e.g., quadrature encoder or Sin/Cos
sensor). e current draw on this supply is measured and can be used to detect command sensor
faults, or wiring faults by use of min/max thresholds: see the monitor variable Ext 5V Current.
Use the +12 V supply for devices requiring higher voltage. Its current draw is measured and can be
used to detect sensor faults or wiring faults by use of min/max thresholds: see the monitor variable
Ext 12V Current.
