ES601Plus OPERATING MANUAL
TEST
LINE CORD
TO EARTH:
If set to "YES", this control will enable measurement of the line cord
resistance. For this type of test, resistance is measured between the protective
earth terminal on the line cord connected to the test socket of ES601Plus, and
the Kelvin Cable which will be connected to a grounding stud or the metal
enclosure of the DUT.
POINT-TO-POINT
RESISTANCE:
If set to "YES", this control will enable measurement of resistance between two
points, one being the point of attachment of the Kelvin Cable, and the other
being the point of attachment of a test lead which connects to the "TO DUT
CASE" jack of ES601Plus. If set to "NO", point-to-point resistance testing is
disabled. This control works with the other two controls to provide various
protocols for protective earth testing as shown in the table below.
MULTI LINE
CORD
POINT-
TO-PT
Test Protocol Test Application
NO YES NO
Measure resistance once, between
Kelvin Cable and test socket of
ES601Plus.
Conventional PE test of equipment
which connects to the AC supply by
means of a line cord.
NO NO YES
Measure resistance once, between
Kelvin Cable and "DUT CASE" lead.
The OFFSET calibration is subtracted
from the measurement to obtain the
final result.
The Kelvin Cable is connected to a
PE equipotential stud located near the
DUT, and the "DUT CASE" lead
connects to the DUT itself.
Single PE test of permanently-installed
equipment which is directly wired to the
AC supply.
Example: test of X-RAY equipment.
YES YES NO
Measure resistance up to 10 times,
between Kelvin Cable and test socket
of ES601Plus.
For the first measurement, the Kelvin
Cable is connected to a designated PE
test stud on the equipment chassis,
per the standard PE test for cord-
connected equipment. For subsequent
tests, the Kelvin Cable may be re-
attached at arbitrary locations on the
equipment enclosure to confirm
continuity of PE to those points.
Multiple PE test of cord-connected
equipment.
Example: test of patient monitor system.
