5.1 Genset
5.1.1 Important information
Controller type: The information here only applies to the GENSET controller.
CAUTION
Before starting the engine for the first time using the controller, the engine and generator must be ready to run. The
engine and generator vendors are responsible for this.

The guidelines here only apply to commissioning of the controller. Commissioning the engine and generator is not
described here.
5.1.2 Starting the engine for the first time

These guidelines are for the commissioning of third party equipment, and are provided to help the overall
commissioning. DEIF does not however take any responsibility for third party equipment.
DANGER!
Ensure that the engine is safe to start before starting the engine.
DANGER!
Ensure that the breaker is open and that breaker closing is disabled.
Commission one controller at a time:
1. Activate switchboard control.
2. Enable and/or unblock the engine start.
3. Use the button on the switchboard (if present) to start the engine. Otherwise, start the engine locally.
4. Observe any strange sounds and leaks. Refer these to the engine and/or generator vendor.
5. Does the engine start okay?
• Yes: Continue.
• No: Troubleshoot the switchboard's engine start wiring. Alternatively, the engine itself could be the problem.
6. Use the button on the switchboard (if present) to stop the engine. Otherwise, stop the engine locally.
7. Does the engine stop?
• Yes: Continue with Setting the governor and Setting the AVR.
• No: Troubleshoot the switchboard's engine stop wiring. If necessary, stop the engine by shutting off the fuel supply.
