6.3 Analogue-controlled regulators
6.3.1 Setting up analogue-controlled regulators
You can configure an analogue input for the controller, so that a corresponding offset is added to the regulator output at
startup.
See Regulation, Governor analogue regulation function and Regulation, AVR analogue regulation function
in the Designer's handbook for more information about the analogue offset.
INFO
You can use a multimeter to verify the output from the controller's analogue-controlled regulators.
6.3.2 External resistor for GOV/AVR
The controller's analogue output can be configured to be either a current or a voltage output.
If you want the governor or AVR to use the controller's current output as a voltage output, external resistors are required. The
advantage of using an external resistor close to the governor or AVR to convert the current to voltage, is that the voltage will
be more stable than using a voltage output directly. This is more effective when there is a large distance between the
controller and the governor or AVR.
6.3.3 Checking the control range
Make sure that the analogue output can control the regulator over the whole control range.
Frequency control range
The frequency control range must be wide enough for the speed droop and for the full loading of the genset.
Recommended control range ≥ nominal frequency ± (droop percentage × nominal frequency + 1 Hz)
If the control range is limited, you may have to reduce the droop.
Control range example
For 50 Hz system with a 4 % droop: Zero load = 52 Hz; Full load = 48 Hz.
The recommended frequency control range is 47 to 53 Hz.
Voltage control range
The voltage range must be wide enough for the voltage droop and for the full loading of the genset.
Recommended control range ≥ nominal voltage ± (droop percentage × nominal voltage)
