3. Use the Manual AVR increase control on the switchboard (if present). Does the generator voltage increase?
• Yes: Continue with the test.
• No: Troubleshoot the switchboard's AVR up wiring. Alternatively, the generator could be the problem.
4. Use the Manual AVR decrease control on the switchboard (if present). Does the generator voltage decrease?
• Yes: Continue with the test.
• No: Troubleshoot the switchboard's AVR down wiring. Alternatively, the generator could be the problem.
5. Is the generator frequency at the nominal frequency? If not, can you use the Manual GOV increase and Manual GOV
decrease controls to get the generator to its nominal frequency? Can you use the controls to keep the generator at its
nominal frequency?
• Yes: Continue with the test.
• No: Troubleshoot. Make sure that the governor setting was done correctly. Alternatively, the engine or the generator
could be the problem.
6. Is the generator voltage at the nominal voltage? If not, can you use the Manual AVR increase and Manual AVR decrease
controls to get the generator to its nominal voltage? Can you use the controls to keep the generator at its nominal
voltage?
• Yes: Continue with the commissioning.
• No: Troubleshoot. Make sure that the AVR setting was done correctly. Alternatively, the generator could be the problem.
5.1.6 Testing the overspeed protection
Use the procedure below to ensure that the Overspeed protection works.
INFO
This is only applicable if a MPU is installed, otherwise skip to the next test.
Preconditions
• Switchboard control must be activated.
• The genset breaker must be open.
• The genset must be running.
• There must be no load on the genset.
Testing the Overspeed protection
1. Under Configure > Parameters > Engine > Protections > Overspeed 2, change the Set point to 101 %, and check that
the alarm action is Trip breaker and shutdown engine.
2. Use the Manual GOV increase control on the switchboard to increase the engine speed to 101 % of the nominal speed.
Does the controller shut down the engine? Does the Overspeed 2 alarm appear in the alarm list?
• Yes: The Overspeed protection works.
• No: Troubleshoot the controller's input/output wiring and configuration, especially for the Stop coil (or Run coil,
whichever is present).
3. Under Configure > Parameters > Engine > Protections > Overspeed 2, change the Set point to back to its original
value.
