7. System testing
7.1 GENSET controller
7.1.1 Basic GENSET controller tests
After completing the previous commissioning steps, the GENSET controller should have the correct protections and
parameters. The engine start and stop, and the breaker close and open should function correctly, and the regulators should
be tuned correctly.
This section describes some basic tests for the GENSET controller.
The complete list of GENSET general functions is also given below. As relevant, test these functions in the system.
Basic GENSET controller tests
DANGER!
Complete all the previous commissioning steps before performing the basic GENSET controller tests.
For each GENSET controller:
1. Genset start and stop
a. Deactivate switchboard control. Press LOCAL so that the controller is in LOCAL mode.
b. Press Start to start the genset.
c. Press Stop to stop the genset.
• Did these tests succeed?
◦ Yes: The controller's LOCAL mode, the display unit start and stop buttons, and the genset start and stop sequences
are working.
◦ No: Check the GENSET controller start and stop input/output wiring, as well as the input/output function configuration.
2. Regulation
a. Press Start to start the genset. Are the frequency and voltage close to the nominal values and controlled within
the required range?
b. Activate switchboard control. Using the switchboard Manual GOV increase control, increase the frequency to 1 Hz
above the nominal value. Deactivate switchboard control. Does the controller regulate the frequency back to the
nominal value? Is the regulation stable? Is it fast enough?
c. Activate switchboard control. Using the switchboard Manual GOV decrease control, decrease the frequency to 1 Hz
below the nominal value. Deactivate switchboard control. Does the controller regulate the frequency back to the
nominal value? Is the regulation stable? Is it fast enough?
• Did these tests succeed?
◦ Yes: The controller's governor outputs and the frequency regulator are working.
◦ No: Check the governor settings, and the regulator tuning.
3. Synchronisation
a. Press Close breaker to close the genset breaker. Does the controller synchronise the genset to the busbar? Is
the regulation stable? Is the synchronisation fast enough?
