The engine must be able to run smoothly, without hunting, before you can use the DEIF controller to control the engine
speed.
Governor initial speed setting
Set the governor for the engine's initial speed. The initial speed is normally the engine's nominal speed. The procedure for
setting this depends on the type of governor.
INFO
Refer to the governor manufacturer for information on how to set the initial speed.
Relay control governor adjustment
Switchboard control must be activated.
The genset breaker must be open, and there must be no load on the genset.
1. Start the genset (if it is not already running).
2. Adjust the governor until the generator output is at the system nominal frequency (typically 50 or 60 Hz).
3. If necessary, tune the governor for stable frequency control.
INFO
Refer to the governor manufacturer for information on how to adjust and tune the governor.
Analogue control governor adjustment
Switchboard control must be activated.
The genset breaker must be open, and there must be no load on the genset.
1. Activate the Regulators > Governor > Reset manual GOV to neutral input.
2. Start the genset (if it is not already running).
3. Adjust the governor until the generator output is at the system nominal frequency (typically 50 or 60 Hz).
4. If necessary, tune the governor for stable frequency control.
5. Make sure that necessary droop is configured correctly.
INFO
Refer to the governor manufacturer for information on how to adjust and tune the governor.
5.1.4 Setting the AVR
INFO
These guidelines are for the commissioning of third party equipment, and are provided to help the overall
commissioning. DEIF does not however take any responsibility for third party equipment.
This section is only relevant if the DEIF controller controls the AVR. The generator must be able to produce a steady voltage
before you can use the DEIF controller to control the excitation.
AVR initial setting
Set the AVR for the generator's initial voltage. The initial voltage is normally the generator's nominal voltage. The procedure
for this depends on the type of AVR.
INFO
Refer to the AVR manufacturer for information on how to set the initial voltage.
