Governor tuning parameters
For relay-controlled governors, set these parameters under Configure > Parameters > Regulators > Governor: Relay
output settings:
Heading Parameters
Frequency regulation Kp, Deadband
Frequency synchronisation Kp
Phase synchronisation Kp
Power regulation Kp, Deadband
Power load sharing Kp, Deadband, P weight, P deadband
AVR tuning parameters
For relay-controlled AVRs, set these parameters under Configure > Parameters > Regulators > AVR: Relay output
settings:
Heading Parameters
Voltage regulation Kp, Deadband
Reactive power regulation Kp, Deadband
Reactive power load sharing Kp, V deadband, Q weight, Q deadband
Tuning the gain (Kp)
Try to use loads that are representative of normal daily operation when you tune the proportional control. As a minimum, the
loads should be 40 % of the nominal genset load.
In general, for tuning the controllers, a slow, stable response is better than a fast, unstable response.
The default controller gains for relay-controlled regulators do not normally need adjustment. If the control response is too
slow:
1. You must have already checked the relay control parameters (that is, the Period time and the Minimum ON time).
2. Deactivate switchboard control, and use the controller for regulation.
3. Increase Kp, and write the new parameter to the controller.
4. Create a change in the system after each change in Kp and check whether the control response is still stable.
5. Repeat the previous two steps until the control response becomes unstable, then set Kp to 50 to 80 % of the unstable Kp.
INFO
It may be useful to increase Kp value for Frequency synchronisation and Phase synchronisation if the load sharing
is stable, but synchronisation is slow.
Setting the deadband
The relay-controlled regulator does not try to adjust the operating value while it is within the deadband. Set the deadband so
that the range where the controller does not try to adjust the operating value is acceptable.
