DANGER!
The voltage across the breaker when synchronised MUST be checked before the breaker is closed for the
first time. A voltage difference can be extremely dangerous and could result in personal injury or death, and
serious equipment damage.
INFO
For GENSET and BUS TIE breaker controllers, this check requires that the busbar is stable. Ensure that the power
sources and loads on the busbar are stable.
INFO
For SHAFT generator or SHORE connection controllers, this check requires the genset(s) to synchronise to the
shaft generator or shore connection. This may be easiest if only one genset is running, and the load on the busbar
is stable.
You can synchronise across the breaker with the controller under switchboard control by manually operating the switchboard
governor controls. Alternatively you can synchronise by using the controller's static synchronisation function.
To check the voltage across the breaker for one controller at a time (using the static synchronisation function):
1. Requirements for each controller type:
For a GENSET controller, the genset must be running.
For a SHAFT generator controller, the shaft generator must be running.
For a SHORE connection controller, the shore connection must be available.
For a BUS TIE breaker controller, there must be voltage on both busbars.
2. There must be voltage on the busbar.
3. Under Configure > Parameters > Breakers > [Breaker] > Synchronisation setting > Sync. type, select Static, then
select Write.
4. Check that the breaker closing is disabled.
5. Deactivate switchboard control.
6. Press LOCAL so that the controller is in LOCAL mode.
7. Press Close breaker
on the display unit.
8. Check that there is stable synchronisation across the breaker (for example, the switchboard's synchroscope shows that
there is stable synchronisation).
Not synchronised or unstable synchronisation: It may be necessary to adjust the regulator tuning. For a relay governor
controller, this is under Configure > Parameters > Regulators > Governor: Relay output settings > Phase
synchronisation. For an analogue governor controller, this is under Configure > Parameters > Regulators >
Governor: Analogue output settings > Phase synchronisation.
INFO
For relay control, to achieve stable synchronisation, you may need to set a shorter period time than you
would use for normal operation.
9. Use a multimeter to measure the voltage across the breaker for L1 (connections shown in red below). Then, measure
the voltage across the breaker for L2, then for L3 (connections shown in blue).
