Configuration Configuration with Windows
Note: If you had previously in-
stalled an operating system update
(Service Pack), install this update
again subsequent to the installation
of the RAS.
Network Card Setup
(LAN)
When the driver software for a net-
work card is installed, the necessary
system software is installed at the
same time. During this process you
must activate the automatic assign-
ment of IP addresses by DHCP.
If the PC has previously been oper-
ated in a network, you must activate
the automatic assignment of an IP
address.
1. In order to do this, you select
“Settings > Control Panel” in the
Start menu, and double-click on
the “Network” icon (under Mi-
crosoft Windows NT, please se-
lect the “Protocols” tab).
2. Double-click on the item “TCP/IP
Protocol > Network card” and
activate the option “Obtain an IP
address from a DHCP server” in
the Properties dialogue. The
gateway or the DNS entries must
be deactivated.
Note: Changes to the Gateway and
the DNS configuration are made via
DHCP.
Establishing a Network
Connection
1. Connect the PC network card to
the OpenCom 100 network port.
In order to do this, use either a
crossover twisted-pair network
cable or connect the OpenCom
100 via a hub.
Note: For the initial configuration,
it may be wise not to connect the
OpenCom 100 to an existing LAN, in
order to eliminate conflicts with a
DHCP server that is already present.
2. Restart your PC. During the sys-
tem start, all necessary IP ad-
dress parameters will be trans-
mitted by OpenCom 100 via
DHCP and automatically set for
the network card.
Note: If the PC has previously been
operated under Windows NT in a net-
work with a Windows NT domain,
you will not be able to log in to the
domain. For this reason you must log
in to the PC as the “Administrator.”
Testing the Setup
Subsequent to establishment, test
the TCP/IP connection between the
OpenCom 100 and the PC.
1. Select the item “Run” in the
Start menu, and enter the com-
mand “ping host.domain.”
