Interfaces Local Area Networks (LANs)
IX14 User Guide
144
For the IX14 device, DHCP relay is configured by providing the IP address of a DHCP relay server,
rather than an IP address range. If both the DHCP relay server and an IP address range are specified,
DHCP relay is used, and the specified IP address range is ignored.
Multiple DHCP relay servers can be provided for each LAN. If multiple relay servers are provided, DHCP
requests are forwarded to all servers without waiting for a response. Clients will typically use the IP
address from the first DHCP response received.
Configuring DHCP relay involves the following items:
Required configuration items
n
Disable the DHCPserver, if it is enabled.
n
IP address of the primary DHCP relay server, to define the relay server that will respond to
DHCP requests.
Additional configuration items
n
IP address of additional DHCP relay servers.
