THEORY OF
OPERATION
Introduction
This chapter explains the mechanical and electrical theory of operation
of the ENCAD CadJet 3D color inkjet printers.
The CadJet 3D is a PowerPC 33MHz microprocessor-based digital
printer that receives plotting instructions from a host computer
through the Centronics parallel interface. This interface is either
connected directly to a computer or through a network print server.

Figure 2-1 illustrates the major functional areas of the printers.
The CadJet 3D printers consist of three mechanical assemblies:
1. Paper (Media) Axis Drive
2. Carriage Axis Drive
3. Media Feed
and four main electrical assemblies:
1. MPCB (Main Printed Circuit Board)
2. Carriage Assembly
3. Control Panel
4. Power Supply
