TheinformationinthefollowingsectionsisimportanttounderstandC2switchoperation
andinstallationsinastackinstallation.
About SecureStack C2 Switch Operation in a Stack
TheSecureStackC2productsarestackableswitchesthatcanbeadaptedandscaledto
helpmeetyournetworkneeds.Theseswitchesprovideamanagementplatformand
uplinktoanetworkbackboneforastackedgroupofuptoeightC2switches.
Onceinstalledinastack,theswitchesbehaveandperform
asasingleswitch.Assuch,
youcanstartwithasingleswitchandaddmoreswitchesasyournetworkexpands.You
canalsomixdifferentproductsinthefamilyinasinglestacktoprovideadesired
combinationofporttypesandfunctionstomatchtherequirementsofindividual
applications.Inallcases,astackofswitchesperformsasonelargeproduct,andis
managedasasinglenetworkentity.
Whenswitchesareinstalledandconnectedasdescribedbackin“ConnectingHigh‐Speed
StackingCables”onpage 3‐10,thefollowingoccursduringinitialization:
•Theswitchthatwillmanagethestackis
automaticallyestablishedandisreferredtoas
theManagerswitch.
•AllotherswitchesareestablishedasMemberswitchesinthestack.
•Thehierarchyoftheswitchesthatwillassumethefunctionofbackupmanagerisalso
determinedincasethecurrentmanagermalfunctions,ispowereddown,oris
disconnectedfromthe
stack.
•Theconsoleportonthe managerswitchremainsactiveforout‐of‐band(local)switch
management,buttheconsoleportoneachmemberswitchisdeactivated.Thisenables
youtosettheIPaddressandsystempasswordusingasingleconsoleport.Noweach
switchcanbeconfiguredlocally
usingonlythemanager’sconsoleport,orinband
usingaremotedeviceandtheCLIsetofcommandsdescribedinthissection.For
proceduresusedforvarioustypesofconnectionstotheConsoleport,referto
“ConnectingtoConsolePortforLocalManagement”onpage 3‐17.
Onceastackis
created(morethanoneswitchisinterconnected),thefollowingoccurs:
1. Switch(unit)IDsarearbitrarilyassignedonafirst‐come,first‐servebasis.
