Connecting Fiber-Optic Cables to MT-RJ Ports
Thissectioncontains theproceduresforconnecting a1000BASE‐SXmultimodefiber‐optic
segmentfromthenetworkorotherdevicestoanMT‐RJportconnectorinaMini‐GBIC
(MGBIC‐MT01).
Eachfiber‐opticlinkconsistsoftwofiber‐opticstrandswithinthecable:
•Transmit(TX)
• Receive(RX)
Thetransmitstrandfrom
adeviceportconnectstothereceiveportofafiber‐opticGigabit
Ethernetdeviceattheotherendofthesegment.Thereceivestrandoftheapplicable
MT‐RJportconnectstothetransmitportofthefiber‐opticGigabitEthernetdevice.
Enterasys N etworksrecommendslabelingfiber‐opticcables toindicate
receiveand
transmitends.Manycablesarepre‐labeled,providingmatchinglabelsortapesatboth
endsofeachstrandofcable.
Toconnectan MT‐RJcabletoafixedMT‐RJconnectorof aMini‐GBIC,refertoFigure 3‐18
andproceedasfollows:
1. Removetheprotectivecovers(not
shown)fromthefrontpanelMT‐RJfiber‐opticport
(port21inthisexample)andfromtheconnectorsoneachendofthecable.

instruments to view laser output increases eye hazard.
