21.1.1 Beforeyourrsttripwiththeapproved
bicycletrailer
Bike trailers will signicantly extend the overall
length of your FLYER. Practice setting o󰀨, bra-
king, riding around corners and on hills in a safe
place with an empty trailer. Then load the trailer
with things that are of the same weight as your
children. Unhook the loaded trailer from the cou-
pling to the FLYER and hold it in your hand at
the same height as the connection point. You
should increase the pressure in the rear wheel if
you feel its weight pressing down on your hand.
However,thetongueloadshouldnotexceedthe
gureshownonthe FLYERorin thetrailer’sin-
structions, otherwise have this checked by your
specialist dealer. Familiarize yourself with the lon-
ger braking distance and altered braking behavior
during a short trip with the loaded trailer. Always
use both brakes when braking to distribute the
loads as well as the heat generated over both
the wheel sets and the overall FLYER. If only the
front brake is used, this can lead to greater stress
on several parts on the towing vehicle, and thus
shorten their lifetime.
21.1.2 Beforeeverytripwiththebicycletrailer
Check that the children are buckled in
safely and are wearing a helmet before
every trip, or that the item being trans-
ported is in the middle of the trailer and
rmly secured. Check the secure t of
the coupling and that the safety coupling
has engaged correctly. Make sure that
the vehicle’s permissible total weight
has not been exceeded. You have to
take the trailer and load into account
here. Permissible total weight:
(FLYER + rider + luggage + trailer + chil-
dren/load)
Check the tire pressure of all wheels and
makesurethatthelights andreectors
on the trailer are clearly visible and are
not covered by dirt or parts of the lug-
gage.
Pay attention to the regulations concern-
ing lights in your country.
21.2 Transporting children in child
seats
Children may only be transported in child seats
on FLYER models that have an approved rack.
This rack is licensed for a weight of 27 kg and
is thus suitable for a child seat, though only for
those child carriers that have been tested and are
listed as approved.
The use of child seats with any other FLYER
e-bikes that are not marked appropriately is pro-
hibited and such use is not approved by the ma-
nufacturer. FLYER e-bikes with a rack that has
a permissible load of 25 kg are not approved for
child seats. FLYER AG disclaims any responsibili-
ty and resulting risks if FLYER e-bikes with a rack
for 25 kg is used to carry a child seat.
Your FLYER specialist dealer can provide you
with instructions on how to use approved child
seats with the FLYER e-bike models approved
for this use. Please pay attention to the permis-
sibletotalweightandtheverydi󰀨erentcenterof
gravity. Read and follow the tips in the following
chapters on learning how to handle your bike
beforetakingitoutforyourrstride,andbefore
every ride.
Observe any applicable national laws.
In Germany, child seats are not permit-
ted on S-pedelecs with assistance up to
45 km/h. They are allowed in Switzer-
land.
Regardless of any statutory obligation,
we recommend that the child wears a
helmet. Please note that children who
weigh more than 22 kg may not be trans-
ported in child seats.
Cover any springs or moving parts on
your saddle or seat post so that the child
cannotgettheirngerscaughtinthese.
The safe transport of children is the
responsibility of the cyclist. FLYER AG
cannot be held liable in connection with
the transport of children and the result-
ing risks.
21.2.1 Beforeyourrsttripwiththechildseat
on the approved rack
Fitting a child seat changes the way your FLYER
handles. Practice setting o󰀨, braking, riding
around corners and on hills in a safe place. It is
important that the child is buckled into the seat
correctly, that it wears a helmet and that its feet
are in the footrests. Always check all of the points
inthe chapter belowbefore setting o󰀨and read
the instruction manual for the child seat carefully.
You should also practice correct behavior during
the trip with your child as well as mounting and
dismounting safely. Also practice using the bike
stand.
