8.3 Replacing a Hot-plug Fan
V CAUTION!
The actions described in this section may only be performed by
personnel with the appropriate technical training. Any unauthorized
openings and improper repairs could expose the user to risks
(electric shock, fire hazards) and could also damage the equipment.
Please observe the safety information in chapter “Important Notes”
on page 23.
In order to replace a defective fan, the housing cover must be removed as the
fans are not directly accessible (see section “Opening/Closing the Housing” on
page 95).
V CAUTION!
The housing cover must be replaced as fast as possible due to cooling,
to comply with applicable EMC regulations (regulations on electromag-
netic compatibility) and to protect against fire. The maximum opening
time of the housing cover amounts to 15 minutes.
The server is at least equipped with one fan unit which includes four hot-plug
fans. The server can be upgraded with a second fan unit with four hot-plug fans.
The prefailure of a fan is notified by the Global Error indicator on the front and
rear of the server (lights orange). The defective fan can be identified (figure 28
on page 89) by the appropriate LED (only visible if the server housing is
opened) and replaced online (hot-swap).
If only a fan unit is installed, a defective fan must be replaced immediately. If two
fan units are installed, the fans are operating in a redundant configuration, in
effect a defective fan can be replaced during the next service.
