What causes the GILES Fryer high limit safety to trip before reaching setpoint?
    • K
      Kathryn KnoxSep 13, 2025
If the high-limit safety trips on your GILES Fryer before reaching the setpoint, with the POWER light on, HEAT switch in the HEAT position, amber HEAT light on, controller HEAT indicator on, and the control panel red HI-LIMIT light on, it could be due to a failed Hi-Limit thermostat, a misaligned Hi-limit probe that's too close to the heating element, a power line spike causing a false hi-limit trip, or cold oil causing a false Hi-Limit during initial heating. For a failed thermostat, misaligned probe, or power line spike, you should call for service. Continuously stirring while heating cold oil will help prevent the issue.

Why is the cooking oil smoking in my GILES Fryer?
    • B
      brandon49Aug 25, 2025
If the cooking oil in your GILES Fryer is smoking, it could be due to several reasons. First, the oil might be old and needs replacing. In this case, remove the old oil, perform a boil-out, and refill with fresh oil. Second, the cooking temperature might be too high; verify that you're using the proper temperature setting for the food item. Third, the heating elements could be dirty, requiring a boil-out procedure to clean the vat. Finally, the oil level might be low; maintain the oil level between the FULL and ADD lines.

Why is the oil not circulating in my GILES GBF-70 during filtering?
    • G
      Gary WarnerAug 26, 2025
If the oil in your GILES Fryer doesn’t circulate or return to the refill vat when filtering, there could be several reasons. First, the oil might be too cold to pump; manually remove the thick oil from the pan. Second, the filter pan might be packed with excessive cooking residue, preventing the pump from drawing; clean the filter pan and refresh the filter media. Third, the filter pan might be assembled incorrectly; verify that the pan is assembled properly. Finally, air might be leaking into the filter plumbing; verify that the filter pan hose connection is secure.

What causes oil circulation problems during filtering in my GILES Fryer?
    • L
      Lauren HollowayAug 26, 2025
If the oil in your GILES Fryer doesn’t circulate or return to refill vat when filtering, and you always refer to the Controller Upper Display for alarm error messages and/or operational prompts & instructions, it means that the automated OIL RETURN valve has failed to OPEN, causing the pump to shut down due to high pressure. A service technician is required.

What to do if the GILES GBF-70 filter pump starts, runs briefly, then stops?
    • E
      Elizabeth BriggsSep 14, 2025
If the filter pump on your GILES Fryer starts, runs briefly, then stops, it could be due to the sensor shutting down the pump due to high pressure (caused by pumping against a closed valve or solid blockage) or the filter pump motor overheating and tripping the internal thermal overload safety shut-off. Verify valve operation, and call for service as required. Allow the pump to cool for about 45 minutes to auto-reset the overload safety, then retry. If this fails or continues happening, call for service.

What to do if connected to bulk waste oil handling system and waste oil will not pump from filter pan to collection tank in GILES Fryer?
    • L
      Lawrence AdkinsSep 23, 2025
If your GILES Fryer is connected to a bulk waste oil handling system and waste oil will not pump from the filter pan to the collection tank: * Ensure the WASTE OIL valve inside the cabinet is in the OPEN position. The pump should start after pressure is relieved. * If the oil line to the collection tank is clogged, call the system dealer for service. * The bulk collection tank may be full. Call the waste oil collection company for pick-up service.

      Anne VincentSep 6, 2025
If your GILES Fryer isn't heating, but the control panel power light is on, the heat switch is in the heat position, the amber heat light is on, and the controller heat indicator is on, the heating element circuit breaker may have tripped. Reset the circuit breaker, which is located on the rear of the unit behind a removable cover.

What to do if Top-Off doesn’t pump oil to vat in GILES Fryer connected to bulk fresh oil supply system?
    • J
      Julia WhiteSep 23, 2025
If your GILES Fryer is connected to a bulk fresh oil supply system and the Top-Off doesn’t pump oil to the vat: * The bulk oil fresh supply may be exhausted. Service the bulk fresh oil system to replenish the supply. If the issue persists, there may be an internal issue with the bulk system, the bulk system internal pump may have failed, the supply line may be clogged, or the electrical connections between the bulk system and the fryer may have malfunctioned. In any of these cases, you should call the system provider for service.
