5.13 DIMM
5.13.1 DIMM Compatibility Information
NOTICE
DIMMs in the same server must be of the same model.
Comply with the following rules when configuring DIMMs:
1. The server does not support use of different types of DIMMs. Use either RDIMMs or
LRDIMMs.
2. Each channel supports a maximum of eight ranks.
NOTE
A channel supports more than eight ranks for LRDIMMs, because a quad-rank LRDIMM
generates the same electrical load as a single-rank RDIMM on a memory bus.
3. The maximum number of DIMMs that can be installed on the server depends on the
number of CPUs installed, DIMM type, number of ranks, and operating voltage. See
Maximum number of DIMMs in the following tables.
NOTE
Note the following rule:
Number of DIMMs per channel ≤ Number of ranks per channel/Number of ranks per DIMM
4. All DIMMs in a server operate at the same speed, which is the lower of following:
– Memory speed supported by a specific processor
– The lowest of the maximum operating speeds for selected memory configurations
(See Maximum operating speed in the following tables.)
