The 5149-N64 switch installation
This switch is installed by the customer or by IBM, depending on the deployment.
The 5149-N64 switch is typically installed in an ESS system. ESS systems can be purchased pre-racked or
unracked. SSRs are responsible for installing the5149-N64 switch in an unracked ESS system.
For installing a system requires planning to facilitate a smooth installation, initialization, and
conguration.
Planning for the 5149-N64 switch
For IBM ESS deployments, IBM is responsible for installing the switch, whether done by manufacturing for
the racked solutions or by the SSR onsite for the unracked solutions.
Customers must complete a Technical and Delivery Assessment (TDA) that the assigned SSR then reviews
with them. In conjunction with the TDA, planning information is available in IBM Docs. The SSR and the
customer must also review and complete all of the planning information in IBM Docs. Before scheduling
the trip onsite to perform the installation, the SSR should attend meetings with the customer to perform
planning tasks.
Pre-install TDA checklist
TDA checklists ensure that the customer prepares the site and gathers information that is needed
to deploy a system. The IBM sales team or business partner helps the customer complete the TDA
checklists, with an assigned IBM quality practitioner or technical account manager (TAM) managing the
communications.
Note: TDA completion is mandatory for these systems and must be completed before arriving onsite to
install the system.
It is the responsibility of the customer, the sales team or business partner, and the IBM quality
practitioners or TAM to ensure that the TDA is completed so that the SSR can use information in the
TDA checklist to install and initially congure the solution.
Two types of TDA checklists are as follows:
Pre-sale TDA checklist
Provides a roadmap of questions associated with a conguration and proposal for IBM products and
solutions. The pre-sale TDA is not relevant to SSRs or to system installations.
Pre-install TDA checklist
Provides a roadmap of questions that assess site readiness and prepares the environment for
the installation. Information in the pre-install TDA checklist is used the installation and initial
conguration.
TDAs are online forms, but can be exported in an .xlsx or .csv format, saved, and printed.
TDA checklists are in the IMPACT website (this site requires an IBM ID). The IBM practitioner creates the
pre-install checklist. Customers, their business partner, IBM quality practitioner or TAM, and the assigned
SSR can access this site to look at and to work on the TDA.
