n Troubleshooting
The following chart is designed to help you correct
problems which are not equipment malfunctions.
If you are unable to locate the cause of a problem
or solve it through the use of this chart, contact your
nearest Icom Dealer or Service Center.
Power does not come on
when [POWER] is pushed.
No sounds comes from
the speaker.
Sensitivity is low.
Received audio is distort-
ed.
Transmitting is impossible.
Output power is too low.
No contact possible with
another station.
Transmitted signals are
distorted.
Repeater cannot be ac-
cessed.
Programmed scan does
not start.
Memory scan does not
start.
Mode select scan does not
start.
No announcement when
[SPCH] is pushed.
The displayed frequency
does not change properly.

•TheinternalCPUhasmalfunctioned.
•ReconnecttheDCpowercablecorrectly.
•Checkthecause,then replacethefusewitha
spare one. (Fuses are installed in the DC power
cable and the internal PA unit.)
•Rotate[AF]clockwisetoobtainasuitablelisten-
ing level.
•Rotate[RF/SQL]to12o’clockpositiontoopen
the squelch.
•Push[TRANSMIT]toreceiveorchecktheSEND
line of an external unit, if desired.
•Reconnecttotheantennaconnector.
•Push[ATT]toturntheattenuatorOFF.
•Rotate[RF/SQL]tothepositionwherethenoise
just disappears.
•SwitchUSBandLSBbypushing[SSB/CW]for
1 sec.
•Push[FM]toselectFMmode.
•Push[AFC/NB]toturnthenoiseblankerfunc-
tion OFF.
•SetthenoisereductionlevelintheNRsetmode
for maximum readability using [SET] and [AFC/
NB•NR], or turn OFF the function by pushing
[AFC/NB•NR]for1sec.
•TurnthePTTlockfunctionOFFintheTRANSMIT
set mode using [SET] and [TRANSMIT].
•Rotate[RFPWR]clockwise.
•Rotate[MICGAIN]clockwise.
•Push[SPLIT]momentarilyorfor1sec.toturnthe
split or duplex function OFF.
•Push[RIT]toturntheRITfunctionOFF.
•Set[MICGAIN]toasuitablelevel.
•Push[SPLIT•DUP]for1sec.toturnduplexop-
eration ON.
•Push[TONE]toactivatethesubaudibletoneor
select a suitable tone frequency in the FM set
mode using [SET] and [FM].
•Push[V/M1]toselectVFOmode.
•Reset[RF/SQL]controlassignmentandsetitto
the threshold point.
•Push[V/M1]toselectmemorymode.
•Programdesiredfrequenciesintomemorychan-
nels.
•Push[SPCH•LOCK]for1sec.onthedesiredop-
erating mode programmed channel.
•Programmorethantwochannelswiththe de-
sired operating mode.
•Installtheoptionalvicesynthesizerunit,UT-102.
•Settheannouncementleveltoasuitablelevelin
the SPCH set mode using [SET] and [SPCH].
•Settheannouncementlanguageto“Eng”(orJPn)
in the SPCH set mode using [SET] and [SPCH].
•
Push[SPCH•LOCK]toturnthelockfunctionOFF.
•ResettheCPU.
