VII. OPERATION

f. Shift the throttle lever to an intermediate speed posi-
tion, that is, between the high speed and low speed
positions (

and

).

g. Turn the key to the pre-heating position (G) and hold it
there about five to ten seconds.
Important:
Never keep on pre-heating more than 10 seconds, or
the glow plugs may burn out.
When the engine fails to start, wait at least 20 sec-
onds before the next attempt.
1. BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE
Caution:
Before starting the engine, be sure to carry out the
pre-operation inspection in accordance with the peri-
odical inspection table on page 49.
Follow instructions given in "I. FOR SAFFETY OP-
ERATION."
Observe instructions given on the caution labels on
the lawn mower and mower deck.
2. STARTING THE ENGINE
Warning:
Never attempt to start the engine in an enclosed place
with poor ventilation. Be sure to provide sufficient ven-
tilation, for exhaust fumes can be lethal.
Important:
Before starting the engine, close the engine hood
securely sit down in the operator's seat properly, de-
press the brake pedal, and shift the PTO lever to the
OFF position ( ), or the engine cannot be started.

a. Close the engine hood securely and sit in the opera-
tor's seat properly.
b. Apply the parking brakes securely (UGE)
c. Shift the PTO lever to the OFF position (
).
d. Depress the brake pedal fully.
e. Insert the starter key into the starter switch and turn
the key to the ON position ( ). Make sure that the
charge lamp and oil pressure lamp are both lit.
