Precompliance Testing for IEC 61000-3-2, Classes A through D
Switching power supplies draw a range of harmonics from the AC mains. Standard limits are set
for these harmonics because these harmonics can return to the supply grid and cause problems
with other devices on the grid.
Use the Current Harmonics analysis to test a switching power supply's current harmonics to
precompliance standard of IEC61000-3-2 (Class A, B, C, or D). The analysis presents up to 40
harmonics.
To perform precompliance testing:
1. Press [Analyze]>Analysis>Harmonics.
2. Press Settings>Source and choose a current channel.
3. Press Fundamental and specify the fundamental frequency of the signal.
4. Press Standard and select the appropriate IECstandard to test against.
Standard Applications
IEC61000-3-2ClassA Balanced three-phase equipment, household appliances (except
equipment identified as Class D), tools excluding portable tools,
dimmers for incandescent lamps, and audio equipment.
IEC 61000-3-2 Class B Portable tools.
IEC 61000-3-2 Class C Lighting equipment.
IEC 61000-3-2 Class D Personal computers, personal computer monitors, and television
receivers with a specified power less than or equal to 600 W.
5. Press Num Harmonics and specify the number of harmonics to analyze.
6. Press CWA Setup and configure CWA as usual. In most cases, the Sync Source will be the
same as the current source chosen above.
