Lenovo ThinkServer TD230 - Connecting the Cables; Turning on the Server; Updating the Server Configuration

Attention:Forpropercoolingandairow,installtheservercoverbeforeturningontheserver.Operating
theserverforextendedperiodsoftime(morethan30minutes)withthecoverremovedmightdamage
servercomponents.
Toinstalltheservercover,dothefollowing:
1.Makesurethatallcables,cards,andothercomponentsareinstalledandseatedcorrectlyandthat
youhavenotleftloosetoolsorpartsinsidetheserver.Also,makesurethatallinternalcablesare
correctlyrouted.
2.Positiontheservercoveronthechassissothattherailguidesonthebottomoftheservercoverengage
therails.Then,slidetheservercovertothefrontoftheserveruntilitsnapsintopositionandisclosed.
Then,tightenthetwothumbscrewstosecuretheservercover.
Note:Althoughtheservercoverissecuredbytwothumbscrews,forsafetyconsideration,besureto
useatool,forexampleascrewdriver,totightenthethumbscrewsandalwaysmakesurethatthe
thumbscrewsaresecurelyinstalled.Also,donotover-tightenthethumbscrews.
Connectingthecables
Attention:Topreventdamagetoequipment,connectthepowercordslast.
Iftheservercablesandconnectorpanelhavecolor-codedconnections,matchthecolorofthecable
endwiththecoloroftheconnector.Forexample,matchabluecableendwithabluepanelconnector,a
redcableendwitharedconnector,andsoon.See“Rearview”onpage30foranillustrationoftheI/O
connectorsontherearoftheserver.
Turningontheserver
Whentheserverisconnectedtoanacpowersourcebutisnotturnedon,theoperatingsystemdoesnot
run,andallcorelogicexceptfortheserviceprocessor(theintegratedmanagementmodule)isshutdown;
however,theservercanrespondtorequeststotheserviceprocessor,suchasaremoterequesttoturnon
theserver.Thepower-onLEDashestoindicatethattheserverisconnectedtoanacpowersourcebut
isnotturnedon.
Approximatelyvesecondsaftertheserverisconnectedtoacpower,oneormorefansmightstartrunning
toprovidecoolingwhiletheserverisconnectedtopowerandthepower-onbuttonLEDashesquickly.
Approximatelyonetothreeminutesaftertheserverisconnectedtoacpower,thepower-controlbutton
becomesactive(thepower-onLEDashesslowly),andoneormorefansmightstartrunningtoprovide
coolingwhiletheserverisconnectedtopower.Then,youcanturnontheserverbypressingthepower
button.
Updatingtheserverconguration
Whenyouturnontheserverforthersttimeafteryouaddorremoveadevice,youmightreceiveamessage
tonotifyyouthatthecongurationhasbeenchanged.TheSetupUtilityprogramstartsautomaticallyso
thatyoucansavethenewcongurationsettings.Formoreinformation,seeChapter7“Conguringthe
server”onpage143.
Someoptionaldeviceshavedevicedriversthatyoumustinstall.Forinformationaboutinstallingdevice
drivers,seethedocumentationthatcomeswitheachdevice.
Theservercomeswithatleastonemicroprocessor.Ifmorethanonemicroprocessorisinstalled,theserver
canoperateasasymmetricmultiprocessing(SMP)server.Youmighthavetoupgradetheoperatingsystem
