Installing,removing,orreplacinghardwaredevices
Thissectionprovidesinstructionsonhowtoinstall,remove,orreplacehardwaredevicesforyourserver.
Youcanmaintainyourserverbyreplacingthefailinghardwaredevices.Ifyouarereplacingahardware
device,performtheremovalprocedureandthenperformtheinstallationprocedureforthehardwaredevice
thatyouwanttoreplace.

ThissectionprovidesinstructionsonhowtoremovetheRAIDcard.IfyouremovetheRAIDcard,you
cannotcongureRAIDusingtheRAIDcardandyouwilllooseallthecurrentRAIDcongurationbased
ontheRAIDcard.
Note:Thissectiononlyappliestoservermodelswithhot-swapharddiskdrives.
ToremovetheRAIDcard,dothefollowing:
1.Removeallmediafromthedrivesandturnoffallattacheddevicesandtheserver.Then,disconnectall
powercordsfromelectricaloutletsanddisconnectallcablesthatareconnectedtotheserver.
2.Removetheservercover.See“Removingtheservercover”onpage43.
3.Laytheserveronitssideforeasieroperation.
4.LocatetheRAIDcard.TheRAIDcardisinstalledintooneofthePCIExpressx8slotsonthesystem
board(callout31inFigure7“Locatingmajorpartsonthesystemboard”onpage34).See“Locating
partsonthesystemboard”onpage33.
5.RemoveanypartsanddisconnectanycablesthatmightpreventyouraccesstotheRAIDcard.
6.DisconnecttheminiSASsignalcablefromtheRAIDcard.
7.TheRAIDcardisakindofPCIcard.See“RemovingaPCIcard”onpage74andfollowthose
instructionstoremovetheRAIDcard.
8.IfyouareinstructedtoreturntheremovedRAIDcardtothemanufacturer,followallpackaging
instructionsanduseanypackagingmaterialsthataresuppliedtoyouforshipping.
