Step6.Touchthestatic-protectivepackagethatcontainstheDIMMtoanyunpaintedmetalsurfaceonthe
outsideoftheserver.Then,removetheDIMMfromthepackage.
Step7.TurntheDIMMsothatthealignmentslotaligncorrectlywiththealignmenttab.
Step8.InserttheDIMMintotheconnectorbyaligningtheedgesoftheDIMMwiththeslotsattheendsof
theDIMMconnector(see“System-boardoptional-deviceconnectors”onpage29
forthelocations
oftheDIMMconnectors).
Step9.FirmlypresstheDIMMstraightdownintotheconnectorbyapplyingpressureonbothendsofthe
DIMMsimultaneously.TheretainingclipssnapintothelockedpositionwhentheDIMMisfirmly
seatedintheconnector.
Note:IfthereisagapbetweentheDIMMandtheretainingclips,theDIMMhasnotbeencorrectly
inserted;opentheretainingclips,removetheDIMM,andthenreinsertit.
Step10.Reconnectthepowercordsandanycablesthatyouremoved.
Step11.Replacetheairbaffle(see“Replacingtheairbaffle”onpage146).
Note:ClosealltheretainingclipsevenforslotswithoutDIMMsinstalledbeforereplacingthe
airbaffle.
Step12.Replacethetopcover(see“Replacingthetopcover”onpage144).
Step13.Turnontheperipheraldevicesandtheserver.
Removingthefancageassembly
Usethisinformationtoremovethefancageassembly.
Toreplacesomecomponentsortocreateworkingroom,youmighthavetoremovethefancageassembly.
Note:Toremoveorinstallafan,itisnotnecessarytoremovethefancage.See“Removingahot-swapfan”
onpage173and“Replacingahot-swapfan”onpage174.
Toremovethefancageassembly,completethefollowingsteps:
Step1.Readthesafetyinformationthatbeginson“Safety”onpagevand“Installationguidelines”on
page289.
Step2.Turnofftheserverandperipheraldevicesanddisconnectthepowercordsandallexternalcables.
Step3.Removethetopcover(see“Removingthetopcover”onpage143).
Step4.1Liftthefancageassemblyreleaselatchesandrotatethereleaselatchesupuntilthefancage
assemblydisengagesfromthechassis;
2then,liftthefancageassemblyoutoftheserver.
