DSAPrebootrunsoutsideoftheoperatingsystem;youmustrestarttheservertorunit.Itisprovided
intheflashmemoryontheserver,oryoucancreateabootablemediasuchasaCD,DVD,ISO,USB,
orPXEusingtheToolsCenterBootableMediaCreator(BoMC).Formoredetails,seetheBoMCUser

thecapabilitiesoftheothereditionsofDSA,DSAPrebootincludesdiagnosticroutinesthatwouldbe
disruptivetorunwithintheoperating-systemenvironment(suchasresettingdevicesandcausinglossof
networkconnectivity).Ithasagraphicaluserinterfacethatyoucanusetospecifywhichdiagnosticsto
runandtoviewthediagnosticanddatacollectionresults.
DSAPrebootprovidesdiagnosticsforthefollowingsystemcomponents,iftheyareinstalled:
Emulexnetworkadapter
Opticaldevices(CDorDVD)
Memory
Microprocessor
Checkpointpanel
I2Cbus
SASandSATAdrives
Ifyouareabletorestarttheserverorifyouneedcomprehensivediagnostics,useDSAPreboot.

RunningtheDSAPrebootdiagnosticprograms
UsethisinformationtoruntheDSAPrebootdiagnosticprograms.
Note:TheDSAmemorytestmighttakeupto30minutestorun.Iftheproblemisnotamemoryproblem,
skipthememorytest.
ToruntheDSAPrebootdiagnosticprograms,completethefollowingsteps:
Step1.Iftheserverisrunning,turnofftheserverandallattacheddevices.
Step2.Turnonallattacheddevices;then,turnontheserver.
Step3.Whentheprompt<F2>Diagnosticsisdisplayed,pressF2.
Note:TheDSAPrebootdiagnosticprogrammightappeartobeunresponsiveforanunusual
lengthoftimewhenyoustarttheprogram.Thisisnormaloperationwhiletheprogramloads.The
loadingprocessmaytakeupto10minutes.
Step4.Optionally,selectQuittoDSAtoexitfromthestand-alonememorydiagnosticprogram.
Note:Afteryouexitfromthestand-alonememorydiagnosticenvironment,youmustrestartthe
servertoaccessthestand-alonememorydiagnosticenvironmentagain.
Step5.Typeguitodisplaythegraphicaluserinterface,ortypecmdtodisplaytheDSAinteractivemenu.
Step6.Followtheinstructionsonthescreentoselectthediagnostictesttorun.
Ifthediagnosticprogramsdonotdetectanyhardwareerrorsbuttheproblemremainsduringnormalserver
operation,asoftwareerrormightbethecause.Ifyoususpectasoftwareproblem,seetheinformation
thatcomeswithyoursoftware.
