GASES AT THE SWIM PLATFORM
Sincecarbonmonoxideproductionis
greaterwhenenginesarecoldversus
whentheyarewarm,aboatoperator
shouldminimizethetimespentongetting
underway.
InordertominimizeCObuild-up,donot
warmuporrunpropulsionengine(s)for
extended periods while the vessel is
stationary.
Aboatoperatorshouldbeawarethat
carbonmonoxideisemittedfromany
boat’sexhaust.Operation,mooringand
anchoringinanareawhereotherboats’
enginesorgeneratorsarerunningmay
putyourboatinanatmospherecontaining
CO,evenifyourboat’sengine(s)is(are)
notrunning.Boatoperatorsneedtobe
awareoftheeffectoftheirboatonother
boatsinthearea.Ofprimeconcernisthe
operationofanauxiliarygeneratorwhere
boatsaremooredalongsideeachother.
Beawareoftheeffectyourexhaustmay
have on other boats and be aware that the
operationofotherboats’equipmentmay
affectthecarbonmonoxideconcentration
onyourboat.
