2-9 ECOLOGICAL/OPERATIONALASPECTS

2-9.1 ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION
1.Do not use excessive speed when
under power; minimize noise and
exhaust pollution. In certain areas
excessive wake can cause serious
damage to other vessels and the
environmentandispunishablebyLaw.
2.Prevent all spillage of oil or fuel into
thesea.Alwayscheckthebilgewater
priortopumpingitoverboard.Ifoilis
noticedinthebilgesthespillageshould
bemoppedupandcorrectlydisposed
ofonshore.
3.Toilets must not be pumped out into
theseawithin12nauticalmilesofthe
shore.
4.Always use ecologically sensitive
consumablesandcleaningmaterials.
5.Never throw any waste products into
the sea.
6.Use ecologically sensitive paints and
dispose of excess paint and other
waste materials in accordance with
localregulations.

perUSCGTitle33CFR151.57must
be carried on board at all times and
thecrewfamiliarwithitsrequirements.
2-9.2 MAINTENANCE
You should ensure that your vessel is
maintainedtoahighstandardforyoursafety
andfortheprotectionoftheenvironment.
1.Carry out the recommended
maintenancetasksasspeciedinthe
manufacturer’s handbooks supplied
with the boat.
2.Always use the manufacturer’s
recommended consumables (oils,
etc.) and spares supplied by the
manufacturer.
3.Whenequipmentisnotinuse,protect
itfromdeterioration.
4.Pay particular attention to any Oil of
Fuelleaksandrepairthemimmediately.
2-9.3 OPERATIONAL
Always be aware of the danger of re
and ood and be prepared to take the
necessaryaction.
2-9.4 FLOODING
1.Keep HATCHES and PORTLIGHTS
closedatsea.
2.Keep the bilges dry and check them
regularlyforwaterandoil.Investigate
the cause of any leaks. Take
immediate action to repair any Salt
water leaks.
3.Keep all bilge pumps and suction
areascleanandserviceable.
4.Regularly check & lubricate all
Seacocks and valves, ensure all
hosesbelowthewaterlinearesecurely
clampedandfreeofcorrosion.
