6 Operate Counter
Using the
Instrument for
the First Time
This chapter describes how to use the SOLAIR 3350 or 5350 Airborne
Particle Counter. The SOLAIR is ready to use out of the box. To start
using the instrument, proceed as follows:
WARNING:
Do not
attempt to sample
reactive gases (such as
hydrogen or oxygen)
with this instrument.
Reactive gases create an
explosion hazard in the
instrument.
Sampling any gas under
pressure can damage the
instrument and void its
warranty.
Sampling any gas that is
not the same density as
ambient air can result in
inaccurate data.

1. Install the instrument batteries according to instructions in
Chapter 3.
2. Position the instrument in the environment to be measured.
3. Plug in AC power cord.
4. Remove the protective cap from the inlet barb located on the top
of the unit. If using an isokinetic probe, install the probe by
connecting the probe tubing to instrument’s inlet barb.
5. Press in on the front panel power switch to power unit ON.
6. While booting, the unit displays a startup screen.
7. The MAIN screen displays.
