Section 6 Clinical Use
The TruScan Pro laser system is an ophthalmic laser that coagulates or burns structures within
the patient’s eyes. During the surgical treatment, the laser energy is delivered directly onto the
patient’s eye tissue, which subsequently modifies the eye structure as intended by the doctor.
This laser system is used for performing the following clinical procedures:

Retinal photocoagulation
Involves the destruction of neovascular complexes
for destroying areas of microinfarction or capillary
closure.
Uses the slit lamp LDU.

Pan retinal photocoagulation
Involves the destruction of neovascular complexes
for destroying areas of microinfarction or capillary
closure.
Uses either the slit lamp LDU or LIO.

Endo-photocoagulation
Involves the destruction of neovascular complexes
for destroying areas of microinfarction or capillary
closure.
Uses the Endoprobe.
Should be practiced in a sterile environment.

Macular treatments
Involves the destruction of leaking vessels in the
macular and paramacular regions in order to produce
a chorioretinal adhesion that can resist ongoing
vitreoretinal traction.
Uses the slit lamp LDU.

Laser trabeculoplasty
Photocoagulation of the trabecular meshwork to
create apertures, which then increases the flow of the
aqueous humor in order to treat open-angle
glaucoma.
Uses the slit lamp LDU.
6.1 LDUs in Clinical Use
There are three different LDUs used with the TruScan Pro laser system. They include the slit
lamp, LIO, and Endoprobe. More details below:

Opaque cornea or lens, corneal

humor that interfered with the
treatment by scattering the beam.
Albino patients or eyes that have no
pigmentation.
