5.5.10 RS-232 routing
You can access the input and output data on the MELSEC-WS safety controller via
the RS-232 interface on the CPU. This feature makes possible, e.g., communication
between the MELSEC-WS safety controller and a Programmable controller connected
without using a network interface module or the connection of an HMI.
Do not use the RS-232 interface for safety-related applications!
The communication protocol used for the RS-232 interface does not support any
safety mechanisms necessary for communication in a safety network.
For this reason the data exchanged via the RS-232 interface are not allowed to be
used for safetyrelated functions.
How to activate the RS-232 routing:
In the hardware configuration, click the Settings button in the left of the
configuration area.
On the General tab, select the Enable RS-232 routing for the CPU option.
Click OK. The RS-232 routing is then activated. On the Interfaces menu you can
now open the configuration window for the data to be transferred.
You can read up to 100 bytes from the MELSEC-WS safety controller and write up to
4 bytes to the MELSEC-WS safety controller.
