3. Using torque set to 55lb-ft (75Nm), repeat the tightening process following the
star pattern.
4. Using torque set to 110lb-ft (149Nm), complete the tightening of the wheel lug
nuts in a star pattern.
5.2.2 Cleaning and inspecting brakes
Adhere to the following guidelines to maintain the trailer brakes in proper condition:

If you notice decreased brake performance, immediately inspect and service the
trailer brakes.
l
With normal use, servicing at one year intervals is usually adequate. With
increased usage, inspect the brakes more frequently as required.
l
Change magnets and shoes when they become excessively worn or scored, as
this condition can reduce vehicle braking.
l
Clean the backing plate, magnet arm, magnet, and brake shoes.
l
Make sure to replace all the removed parts in the same brake and drum
assembly.
l
Inspect for any loose or worn parts, stretched or deformed springs, and replace
as necessary.
