Hardware Features
l
Standard-feature EtherCAT Control Network Support
All CPU Units provide an EtherCAT master port for EtherCAT communications.
EtherCAT is an advanced industrial network system that achieves faster
, more-efficient communi-
cations. It is based on Ethernet. Each node achieves a short fixed communications cycle time by
transmitting Ethernet frames at high speed.
The standard-feature EtherCAT control network allows you to connect all of the devices required
for machine control (e.g., I/O systems, Servo Drives, Inverters, and machine vision) to the same
network.
l
Support for EtherCAT Slave Terminals
You can use EtherCAT Slave Terminals to save space. You can also flexibly build systems with the
wide variety of NX Units.
l
Achieving a Safety Subsystem
You can use NX-series Safety Control Units to integrate safety controls in sequence and motion
control systems.
l
Standard-feature EtherNet/IP Communications Ports
All CPU Units provide two EtherNet/IP ports for EtherNet/IP communications.
EtherNet/IP is a multi-vendor industrial network that uses Ethernet. You can use it for networks be-
tween Controllers or as a field network. The use of standard Ethernet technology allows you to con-
nect to many different types of general-purpose Ethernet devices.
Moreover, with two EtherNet/IP ports these CPU Units enable the integrated control of two sepa-
rate control systems, for example, one of the host information control system for communications
between Controllers and the other for a lower-level field network control system.
l
X Bus Units Connectable
All CPU Units provide the X Bus that is used to transfer data with a larger capacity than the NX
bus.
Up to four X Bus Units such as EtherNet/IP Units can be mounted to the CPU Unit.
l
Up to 10 EtherNet/IP Networks Constructible
You can mount four EtherNet/IP Units (X Bus Units) to the CPU Unit to build up to 10 EtherNet/IP
networks.
With network segmentation of up to 10 systems, it is possible to realize large capacity data commu-
nications of production information, quality information, and equipment information for improving
the yield rate in the production line.
In addition, it is possible to realize a flexible and safe line configuration in a large-scale assembly
line.
