Glossary
CD-TEXT A CD that allows text information such as the album, song title, or the name of the artist to be
recorded on the music CD (CD-DA:Î page 159). To view the text information, you must have
a CD-ROM drive or CD player compatible with CD-TEXT. A regular music CD player can be
used to play back the music segments recorded on a CD-TEXT disk.
Click An operation in which a mouse button (right or left button) or the touch pad is pressed once,
quickly, and then released. When this operation is executed twice in quick succession, it is
referred to as a “double click” ( Î page 161). A click is used when selecting or executing a
program, menu item, or piece of data. Clicking the right button is called “right click”, and
clicking the left button is called “left click”, but generally the term “click” refers to a “left click”.
CODEC – COmpression/
DECompression
A driver (Î page 161) or device that compresses and saves large-volume files, like DVD-Video
(Î page 162), and returns the saved data to video or audio format.
Computer Virus A program that proliferates by spreading an “infection” from one computer to other computers.
Some viruses are highly malicious, destroying computer data, or preventing the computer from
starting up properly. Anti-virus software and other related systems are effective in protecting
computers from viruses. It is also important to execute Windows Updates regularly and to use
the latest Windows Service Packs and correction programs, so that Windows is maintained in
its most recent form.
CPRM
– Content Protection for
Recordable Media
A copyright management technology used when recording digital broadcasts restricted to being
recorded only once onto a DVD-RAM or DVD-RW (VR type) disk using a DVD recorder. Digital
broadcasts or other content recorded using CPRM cannot be played back if copied onto other
media.
Both the recordable DVD media and the DVD recorder must be compatible with CPRM
technologies to record using CPRM. A DVD recorder compatible with CPRM technologies is
required to play back contents recorded on DVD media using this format.
D
DDR SDRAM Internal devices (Î page 161) in a computer execute a variety of operations using a clock
signal that turns on and off repeatedly at fixed intervals. SDRAM (Synchronous DRAM) is a
type of memory that operates in synchronization with this clock cycle (Î page 166). DDR
SDRAM (Double-data-rate synchronous DRAM) uses twice the data transmission speed of the
standard SDRAM.
