5 Cleaning and care
5.1 Cleaning the NeuroSmart
The NeuroSmart cannot be sterilised.
Switch the device off. Disconnect all cables and wires from the device before starting cleaning and
disinfection. To disconnect the cable always pull on the plug and not on the cable. Clean the Neu-
roSmart with a slightly moist cloth. During cleaning, ensure that no liquid penetrates the housing
through openings or connector sockets, otherwise the device could be damaged or its safety could
be impaired.
When working with liquids, never hold the NeuroSmart’s connector socket upwards.
Any liquid coming into contact with the housing must be immediately wiped off using a dry cloth.
To disinfect the NeuroSmart, use standard hospital disinfectants such as Lysoformin or Helipur H
plus N. Do not use cleaning agents with a phenol base.
Do not allow any liquid to get into the device. However, should this occur, switch the device off and
disconnect the adapter. Remove all patient connectors. Dry the outside of the device. Ensure that no
liquid has got inside the housing or the plug and socket connections on the housing base.
If it is likely that liquid has got into the device or if you are uncertain about the safety of the device,
have the device checked by a service workshop. Then carry out checks as per the safety require-
ments.
5.2 Cleaning, disinfection and sterilisation of the cables
Cables are supplied unsterile and are reusable. For reconditioning, the following recommendations must
be observed in order to avoid damage or operational impairment.
5.2.1 Cleaning
Wiping with a damp cloth: if necessary, common alcohol-free hand wash soap or detergents can be
added to warm water
Wipe cables dry with a cloth if necessary.
Carefully clean them in order to avoid breaking of the inner conductors due to strong bending,
stretching or flexing
To avoid patient or user danger, never place or submerge the cable in liquid or bring the contacts
into contact with the cleaning fluid
Do not treat the cables with oily (e.g. cooking/ lubricating oil) or aggressive liquids or solvents (e.g.
acetone)
