Use the product documentation to verify that the communication modules are suitable for the
terminal bus when implementing the respective concept.
Connecting to the system bus
You can use the following network adapters to connect to the system bus:
● Standard communication modules:
– If you connect up to 8 communication partners per PC station (automation systems or
servers).
– If fault-tolerant automation systems are used with CPUs (firmware version as of V6.0).
● Communication modules with onboard processors (CP 16xx) are required in the following
cases:
– If you connect between 9 and a maximum of 64 communication partners per PC station
(automation systems or servers).
– If fault-tolerant automation systems are used with CPUs (firmware version earlier than
V6.0).
– If you require connections between a PC station with 2 network adapters to fault-tolerant
automation systems.
Licensing of the network adapter
● Licensing for fault-tolerant automation systems
You can find more information on this in the function manual
Process Control System
PCS 7; Fault-Tolerant Process Control Systems
.
● Licensing for the configured terminal bus
If you use a CP 16xx on the system bus and configure the terminal bus in NetPro, you will
require a BCE license.
Firewall on the system bus
If you use a firewall on the system bus, you will need a communications processor for the
SIMATIC stations from the CP 443-1 EX xx series with at least firmware version V2.5.5; EX
xx meaning: EX 10 and above)
Driver
You can find information on the availability of the drivers in the
PCS 7 Readme
