This section describes how to install the Windows 3.1 or the Windows for
Workgroups 3.11 operating system on the GCC. It also explains how to
configure the screen resolution and virtual memory for optimal performance. In
addition, mouse and touchscreen settings and calibration are explained. For
detailed information about Windows, refer to the Windows documentation for
your computer.
To install Windows, complete the following steps:
1. Insert Windows Disk #1 into drive A.
2. At the A: prompt, type Setup and press Enter. The system prompts you to
make the selections listed in Table 1 during the installation procedure.

This section describes how to modify the AUTOEXEC.BAT file to include
SMARTDRV and configure the SmartDrive disk cache.
Note: The following instructions assume that the computer’s
DOS directory has been previously identified in the
AUTOEXEC.BAT file’s PATH statement.
1. At the C:\>prompt, type EDIT AUTOEXEC.BAT and press ENTER. The
AUTOEXEC.BAT file is displayed on the text editor screen.
2. For 8MB RAM systems, change the line that includes SMARTDRV.EXE as
follows:
SMARTDRV.EXE 1024 1024
3. For 16MB RAM systems, change the line that includes SMARTDRV.EXE
as follows:
SMARTDRV.EXE 2048 2048
