6.3 Connections and earthing
Electricalconnectionshavetobedonewithcableswith
sections suitable for the nominal current values and
distances.
Refertofollowingdrawing:
Thegeneratorhousinghastobeconnectedtoearthon
thebase ofthegeneratingset.If flexibleantivibration
dampersaremountedbetweenthegeneratorhousing
anditsbase,anearthconductorshouldbeconnectedin
parallelthroughtheflexiblesupportandbeadequately
sized(usuallyhalfthesectionofthemainlinecables).
BythefeetonthehousingthereisaretwoM8threaded
holesfortheearthingofthehousing(seefigure)forHB
and M10 for IB series.
6.4 Preliminary controls
6.4.1 Control of electrical insulation
Before starting up the generating set or after long
shutdowns, check the insulation resistance of the
windingstoearth.
The results must be over 2 MOhm. If this is not the
case,thealternatoraloneshouldbeovendriedat80-
100°Cfor6hours.
Beforecarryingoutthisoperationremovethevoltage
regulatorandtheemcfilter.
6.4.2 Direction of rotation
Thegeneratorsaredesignedforwithclockwiserotation,
viewed from the coupling side (unless otherwise
specified on order) to produce a U-V-W phase
sequence (according toIEC 60034-8).If rotation has
tobereversedafterdeliveryasktheSincro Technical
Officefortherelevantwiringdiagrams.
Thegeneratorsaresuppliedwithatwo-directionalfan.
6.4.3 Control of voltage and frequency
Controlthatthevoltageandfrequencyvaluesrequired
bythegeneratingsetcorrespondtothegeneratordata
plate.
Disconnect the AVR (voltage regulator)
beforecarryingoutthistest.

Makesuretheearthingprocedureis

voltageduringproduction.Additionalhigh-
voltage tests can weaken the insulation
therebyreducingtheworkinglifespan.Ifa
high-voltagetestshouldprovenecessary
forcustomerapproval,thesetestsshould
becarriedoutatlowervoltages.

properly done, can cause dangerous
