Because of phase dierences, external tickle pulses may combine with
the internally-generated tickle signal causing the Lase LED to icker
during the transition from tickle to lasing. Laser output may occur if
the Lase LED ickers.
Caution

equipment
damage
Do not exceed a gas purge pressure of 34.5 kPa (5 PSI). Excessive
pressure may damage the purge assembly or other internal laser com-
ponents.
Do not use argon as a purge gas. Use only nitrogen or clean, dry air as
described in Table 1-6, Purge gas specications.
6
Start purge gas ow at a rate of 0.85–1.7 m
3
/hr (30–60 SCFH, Standard Cubic Feet per Hour) at a
pressure not to exceed 34.5 kPa (5 PSI). If a owmeter is not available, set a purge pressure between
13.8–34.5 kPa (2–5 PSI).
7
Verify that the lasers Keyswitch (if equipped) is in the OFF/RESET position.
8
Turn on the +96 VDC power supply.
If the factory-wired Quick Start Plug is installed, the Remote Interlock indicator will illuminate green
and the Shutter indicator will illuminate blue—if the manual Shutter Switch is open. The Temp indi-
cator will illuminate green if laser temperature is within safe operating limits.
Starting your Firestar f-Series laser
Note: Firestar Ready and Shutter LEDs denote separate control functions. Although the Ready lamp may
light while the Shutter LED is O (Shutter Switch Closed or Shutter Open Request input miss-
ing), no power is applied to the RF boards until both Ready and Shutter indicators are illuminated.
1
If the laser has a Diode Pointer installed, remove its aperture dust cover.
2
Place the Shutter Switch (if equipped) in the Open position. The blue Shutter indicator illuminates.
3
Rotate the Keyswitch(s) (if equipped) to the ON position. Verify that the Ready LED illuminates.
Note: Each time an OEM laser is powered up or a Keyswitch version is switched OFF/ON, a ve-second
delay occurs between the time that Ready and Shutter indicators illuminate and Firestar is permit-
ted to lase.
Note: For remote operation (Keyswitch lasers), it is possible to set the Keyswitch to the ON position and
use the Remote Reset/Start Request input (on the User I/O connector) as a remote keyswitch,
similar to other SYNRAD laser models.
