Lubricating the Driveshaft
Sliding Joints
Service Interval : Every 100 hours —Lubricate the
driveshaft sliding joint.
Lubrication specication: Anti-sieze compound
1. Disconnect the driveshaft from the cutting-unit
gearbox; refer to Disconnecting the Driveshaft
from the Cutting-Unit Gearbox ( page 71 ) .
2. Pull the front half of the driveshaft ( Figure 48 )
forward about 25 cm (10 inches).

3. Wipe clean the splines of the gearbox shaft and
the splines of the driveshaft ( Figure 48 ).
4. Wipe clean the sliding surface of the forward
driveshaft ( Figure 48 ).
5. Apply anti-sieze compound to the splines of the
gearbox shaft and U-joint coupling ( Figure 48 ).
6. Apply anti-sieze to the sliding surface of the
forward driveshaft ( Figure 48 ).
7. Move the front half of the driveshaft rearward to
align the U-joint coupling with the gearbox shaft.
8. Wipe of f excess anti-sieze compound from the
driveshaft.
9. Connect the driveshaft to the cutting-unit
gearbox; refer to Connecting the Driveshaft to
the Cutting-Unit Gearbox ( page 72 ) .
