Servicing the Air-Cleaner Filters
Service Interval : Before each use or daily
Every 100 hours —Replace the air-cleaner
lter . More frequently in extreme dusty or dirty
conditions.
1. Gently slide the primary lter out of the
air-cleaner body ( Figure 54 ).
Note: A void knocking the lter into the side of
the body .
Important: Do not attempt to clean the
primary lter .

2. Remove the safety lter (if equipped).
Note: Remove the safety lter only if you intend
to replace it.
Important: Never attempt to clean the safety
lter . If the safety lter is dirty , then the
primary lter is damaged, and you should
replace both lters.
3. Inspect the new lter(s) for damage by looking
into the lter while shining a bright light on the
outside of the lter .
Note: Holes in the lter appear as bright
spots. Inspect the element for tears, an oily
lm, or damage to the rubber seal. If the lter is
damaged, do not use it.
4. If you are replacing the safety lter , carefully
slide the new lter into the lter body ( Figure 54 ).
Important: T o prevent engine damage,
always operate the engine with both air
lters and cover installed.
5. Carefully slide the new primary lter over the
safety lter and ensure that it is fully seated
by pushing on the outer rim of the lter while
installing it.
Important: Do not press on the soft inside
area of the lter .
6. Install the air-cleaner cover with the side
indicated as “UP” facing upward and secure the
latches ( Figure 54 ).
Servicing the Engine Oil
The engine ships with oil in the crankcase.
Crankcase capacity: approximately 3.2 L (3.4 US
qt) with the lter .
Engine oil specication:
Engine oil-type: API Classication Level Required:
CH-4, CI-4 or higher .
Engine oil viscosity: See the table below .
Preferred oil: SAE 15W -40 (above 0°F)
Alternate oil: SAE 10W -30 or 5W -30 (all
temperatures)
Note: T oro Premium Engine Oil is available from your
authorized T oro distributor in either 15W -40 or 10W -30
viscosity . See the parts catalog for part numbers.
