IMPORTANT
Thegroomergearboxinstalledontheleftsideofthecuttingunituse
aleft-handthread.Turntheinputshaft(rearrollerbrushdriveshaft)
clockwisetoremovethegearbox.Thegroomergearboxinstalled
ontherightsideofthecuttingunitusearight-handthread.Turnthe
inputshaftcounterclockwisetoremovethegearbox.
5.Removethegearboxfromthecuttingunitasfollows:
A.Turntheinputshaftinthecorrectdirectiontoloosenitfromthereel.
B.Removethecotterpin(item6inFigure394)andclevispinfromthe
heightadjustmentrodatthefrontofthegroomergearbox.Discardthe
cotterpin.
C.Continuetounscrewtheinputshaftandremovethegearboxfromthe
cuttingunit.
DisassemblingtheGroomerDriveAssembly
Thegearboxassemblyhave2additionalidlergearassemblies(item44in
Figure395).
1.Ifnecessary,removetheinputshaftadapter(item20inFigure395).
2.Removethedrain/llplug(item5inFigure395)anddraintheoilfromthe
gearbox.
3.Removethe4socket-headscrews(item37inFigure395)andseparatethe
gearboxcoverandhousing.
4.Removeanddiscardthecovergasket.
5.Slidethesungear(item10inFigure395),ringgear,andplanetgearsfrom
thepinsonthegearboxhousing.
6.Continuetodisassemblethegearboxasnecessary.
CAUTION
Usethe1−3/8inchatsontheinputshafttopreventtheinputshaft
fromrotatingduringadapterremoval.Donotusethe1/2inchhexon
theinputshafttosecuretheshaftduringadapterremovalorinput
shaftdamagemayoccur.
7.Ifthedriveadapterrequiresreplacement,applyhighstrengththreadlocker
(loctite243orequivalent)tothe5/8inchthreadsofthedriveadapterand
tightentheadapterto150to173N∙m(110to120ft-lb).
8.Carefullycleanallthegasketmaterialfromthegearboxhousingandcover.
9.InspecttheV-ring(item17inFigure395),seals,bearings,gears,and
bushingsinthegearboxassembly.Replacethedamagedorworn
componentsasnecessary.
