1.Ifthesungear(item10inFigure395),ringgear,orthegearboxhousing
bearingsarereplaced,pressthebearingsallthewaytoshoulderinpart.
2.Iftheangebushingsarereplaced,ensurethattheangebushingisfully
seatedagainstthepart.
3.EnsurethatalltheretainingringsandO-ringsarefullyseatedinthering
groove.
4.LubricatetheseallipsandO-ringsbeforeinstallingtheshafts.
5.Iftheidlergearassemblieswereremoved,tightentheidlergearboltto9
to11N∙m(85to95in-lb).
6.Lubricatetheplanetgearandsungearpinsinthegearboxhousingwiththe
gearoilandinstalltheplanet,ring,andsungears.
7.Cleanthegasketsurfaceonthegearboxhousingandcoverwiththesolvent
andinstallnewgasket.
8.Fitthegearboxcoveroverdowelpinsandinstallthe4socket-headscrews.
Tightenthescrewsto1.7to4.5N∙m(15to40in-lb).Inanalternatingcross
pattern,tightenthescrewsto8.4to9.6N∙m(75to85in-lb).
9.Fillthegearboxwith80W−90gearoilandtightenthedrain/llplugto4to5
N∙m(32to42in-lb).
Thegearboxoilcapacityforreelcuttingunitsis90ml(3oz).
CAUTION
Usethe1−3/8inchatsontheinputshafttopreventtheinputshaft
fromrotatingduringadapterinstallation.Donotusethe1/2inchhex
ontheinputshafttosecuretheshaftduringadapterinstallationor
inputshaftdamagemayoccur.
10.Ifremoved,installthethreadedadapterintheinputshaft.Ifusinga
previouslyinstalledadapter,applymediumstrengththreadlockertothe
smaller(5/8–11)threadsonly.Tightenthethreadedadapterto150to173
N∙m(110to120ft-lb).
11.Operatethegroomergearboxbyhandtocheckforproperoperationpriorto
installation.
InstallingtheGearBoxAssembly
1.Parkthemachineonacleanandlevelsurface,lowerthecuttingunits
completelytotheground,shutofftheengine,settheparkingbrake,and
removethekeyfromthekeyswitch.
CAUTION
Contactwiththereelorothercuttingunitpartscanresultinpersonal
injury.
Useheavygloveswhenhandlingthecuttingreel.
2.Safelypreventthereelfromrotatingbyblockingthecuttingreelwithapiece
ofwoodnearoneofthereelspiders.
