2. FRONT-END SHAPE
The sub-frame combined with the chassis frame may have a point
where the rigidity suddenly changes, increasing the possibility of stress
concentration on the chassis frame. To reduce the possibility of stress
concentration, shape the front end of the sub-frame so that its rigidity
gradually decreases. Also extend the front end of the sub-frame as far
forward as possible.
See Figs. 4,5,6 and 7 for examples of sub-frame front-end shapes.
It is recommended that the sub-frame shown in Fig. 4, 5 or 6 be used
wherever possible. If the body design or other factors preclude the use of
Fig. 7 be used.
When mounting a tank body or other highly rigid body, use one of the
shapes in Fig. 4, 5 or 6.
