1. Remove
the
air shroud and
the
starter
from
the
engine.
2. Pull
about
four inches of starter rope
from
the
cutout
in
the
sheave drum.
Rotate
the
sheave drum five times clock- .
wise
to
release
the
preload on
the
starter
spring.
3. Remove
the
securing nut, and carefully
disassemble
the
starter. Note
the
relative
position
of
each piece. You will have to
reassemble
the
starter as shown in
the
illustration above.
Be careful when removing
the
drive plate and
the
sheave drum. There is a preloaded spring
behind each of these items.
