There are Schmitt Triggers on the Voice 15 and Voice 16 External Audio input jacks that are
scanned and sent to the mod source list ("EXT TRIGGER 1", EXT TRIGGER 2"). Schmitt Triggers
are level detectors that fire a trigger whenever the set threshold is detected as having been passed.
User Programs 124 and 126 demonstrate this parameter :) Note that it's just a level threshold; you
set the level of your source to trigger the envelopes along with the beat. You don't get dynamic
depth control, but yes, if you have an envelope follower of your own that you can patch into the
FILTER External CV Input, you can also dynamically control the Fc along with the enveloping. I
don't remember offhand if the CC Pedal input is resistive or voltage. If it's voltage, it will probably be
a 12-bit scan and could then be used as an assignalbe modulation source which would allow you to
dynamically control the Filter Envelope's depth...
READ THE MANUAL AND FIND OUT IF THIS IS RECOMMENDED OR NOT BEFORE ACTUALLY
SENDING DC VOLTAGE INTO THIS JACK--- IF IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED YOU COULD
DAMAGE THE UNIT AND THIS IS PROBABLY NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. I TOLD
YOU TO LOOK TO SEE BEFORE TRYING THIS.
22.26 use aux outs for a slightly purer signal path:
From Mike Peake:
Ah - the audiophile pure signal path theory. :)
Actually, are the FX on? The FX do have some EQ possibilities which may boost the bass
depending on your configuration.
I wouldn't think a volume knob would make too much difference to the sound. But I admit I haven't
tried the two configs.
The FX are a sidechain and when OFF only contribute the DAC's self-noise to the Main outputs
(unless the additional summing is changing the overall signal).
The Mains DO run through a few feet of wire as they go out to the Volume knob and then back; the
Aux outputs are a straight path on the PCB, as are the Individual outputs.
At the lower levels that Colin is using to tap the purity of the analog signal path, the FX self-noise
begins to become apparent and objectionable. The Aux outputs are recommended in their place. By
me, not by Alesis :-)
22.27 voice random explained:
From Mike Peake:
Voice Random is a digital noise source which is calculated per voice (asynchronous and unrelated).
There is a Global Random which is the same as the Vibrato in the JP8, if memory serves, where it's
the equiv of one source modulating all voices (completely synchronous levels).
In my experience, voice random acts very LFO-like, but it is not simply one value per note, it
really is random.
22.28 global volume override with a pedal:
From the v1.40 OS notes:
When Keyboard mode is set to either LOCAL or LOCMID, assigning the CC pedal
to CC#7 will allow the user to control the A6 global MIDI volume directly.
Previously, this only worked if A6 sent out CC pedal info via CC#7 AND if
the user looped the MIDI data back into the A6.
22.29 alternate knobs:
From Mark Kopec:
I posted some information a while ago regarding some readily available substitut es. Here are some
more links with photos:
