The parameter shall be set to "Enable" for registration of a new base station. The default
value is "Disable".
5.17 Require Encrypted Base Station
The handset can be configured to establish calls via encrypted base stations only. This is
used to avoid snooping in the telephony network.
Requirements:
• The encryption is enabled in the base station
. See corresponding manual for the base
station.
• If Ascom´s base station is used, the software ve
rsion must be 3.1.x or greater.
• The handset software version must be 2.9.7 or greater.
Using the "Edit template" feature in the PDM, the parameter can be found at
Systems > Encryption required.
When the parameter is set to "Yes", it is only pos
sible to establish calls via encrypted base
stations. The default value is "No".
5.18 Early Encryption
Early encryption is used when enhanced DECT security is activated in the base station. This
means that the radio link is encrypted early before data is transmitted.
To enable early encryption in the handset, the "Early encryption enable" parameter is set via
the PDM in th
e following way:
1 From the PDM/Device Manager, select Systems > System x
2 Select "true" from the Early Enc
ryption enable drop-down list
If users experience connection problems when early encryption is turne
d on, the function
may be turned off in the handset by reconfiguring the handset through the PDM and setting
the value of the parameter to "false". This can occur, for example, when the handset is being
used in an environment where highly reflected metallic surfaces are used in the construction
of the locale.
5.19 Base Station Positioning
An approximate location of the handset is possible to sent along with an alarm. The handset
evaluates the field strength ratio of the individual radio Base Stations and sends the best-
rated Base Station ID to indicate an approximate location of the handset.
In addition, a system can also request the Base Station
ID regardless if an alarm is sent or
not. See 5.22 Poll Location on
page 32.
In a template or Number in PDM/Devi
ce Manager, the parameter for activation is found at:
Location > Base station positioning
Note: The standby time for the handset will be lower when Base station positioning is
activated.
